About EBSCO ?
EBSCO
Publishing is the American company branched in Thailand a
decade ago. We now provide service as print journal,
e-journal, search engine (A-Z) and database.
The
database starts with newspaper, online journal through
Academic Search and is expanding to Bio-Medical by
next year. It is copyright information from various publishers
as huge online database networking.
New interesting database!
In addition
to reference databases and other databases that many
university libraries have by their own, we proudly present
Education Research Complete aiming at providing research
method in education for most university with faculty of
education in Thailand. Besides ERIC which is education index,
Education Research Complete
was first
lunched in Thailand at the faculty of education in Kasetsart
University and Chulalongkorn University and set for trial in
some focused libraries.
Who are your main customers?
Most of 24
public universities are main customer and some of private
university as well. Anyway, there are more public university
now as Rajabhat Institutes are upgraded to Rajabhat
University.
The idea of consortium
Nowadays,
the idea of consortium is widely spread among the universities
in Thailand because they realize how much money they spent.
Though it’s hard to manage fund in each university which
relies on fiscal budget, the Commission of Higher Education
under the Ministry of Education tries to push this kind of
consortia as reference database and e-book and some university
libraries in science and medicine pull out together making
consortia for special databases they need. The more consortia
we are the less expense we pay.
The movement of new database!
We
continually launch new specific products as database on
pharmacy and dentistry by next year. However, Academic
Search is a prominent database must have, we have our own
audit team to justify readiness of each database provision.
The different prominent point of EBSCO
Though
there is another brand, we are different. As we are the owner
not distributor we can develop the products by analyzing user
statistics.
The hard
burden!
Marketing
is not the hardest thing, but updating is. We have to find
out how Thai people frequently use 8,000 journals as much as
possible and cost – efficient. The database is invisible
thing on the line if you use only half a year it means you
throw away the rest of money. Though now we have the
competitor as Google, but you can not refer the results of
Google in your own report or thesis. So it comes with the idea
of learning and teaching in Thailand concerning instructors to
assign students to read and use articles and papers as much as
they can.
